History

The first musical production of the duo was an EP titled Mutant Moments. It was financed with a loan of £ 2000 by David Balls mother. The plate was pressed in an edition of 2,000 pieces and has since become a rare collector's item among fans. The EP and the early performances by Soft Cell attracted the attention of various labels on themselves - including Mute Records and Some Bizzare Records, who had been prescribed both of the new movement of synthesizer music.

The next (The Girl with the Patent Leather Face) was taken with the Some Bizarre Album compilation, alongside songs by the then-unknown Depeche Mode, The The and Blancmange. The first two Soft Cell singles A Man Can Get Lost and memorabilia were produced by Daniel Miller and published on Phonogram Records. Although they were able to land a club hit with memorabilia, the formation remained largely unknown.

Phonogram Records showed that they were unhappy about the lack of success and gave Soft Cell only one chance to produce a single with chart success. The duo decided to use a cover version of the 1964 song Tainted Love, which was originally sung by Gloria Jones. The title reached # 1 on the charts in 17 countries. In their home country, they succeeded in the following year a further four singles - Bedsitter, Say Hello, Wave Goodbye, Torch and What - to place in the top 5.

After the release of three albums went their separate ways early in 1984. During Marc Almond carried on solo, Dave Ball was in addition to his work as a producer and re -mixer in bands and projects such as ' Other People ', ' English Boy On The Love Ranch, ' Jack The tab ' and now' The Grid ' involved.

1989, there was again a first collaboration between the two, as The Grid, the single ' Waifs & Strays ' Marc Almond remixed. 1991 work The Grid and Marc Almond Marc Almond album together on ' Tenement Symphony '.

Since 1998, the two wrote and worked on new songs, which culminated in the first concerts in London in 2001. It was followed by the publication of the Very Best Of ... album in April 2002 with two new tracks and a European tour. In autumn 2002, then appeared the album Cruelty Without Beauty and another tour.

By 2004, Soft Cell toured on, then parted ways again but without an official resolution. Only on Marc Almond's official website was a few years later to read in a interview that there would be no further Soft Cell Concerts, because this would mean for him a step backwards.
