Soil & "Pimp" Sessions

Soil & "Pimp " Sessions is a Japanese Club Jazz Band, which was formed in the club scene of Tokyo to Shacho and Tabu Zombi. This started to include live jam sessions in their DJ sets to which other musicians were always invited. So the band grouped with the times, and today consists of six members: Shacho ( " agitator " ), Tabu Zombie ( trumpet), Motoharu ( sax ), Josei (keyboards), Akita Goldman (double bass), and Midorin (drums). Today, the Group waived during their appearances on the use of DJ performances.

Band History

2003, the band performed without a record deal with the Fuji Rock Festival and gained thereby - and to be the first group without a contract at this festival by the fact - a high level of awareness in the Tokyo jazz scene. The following year, the first mini album " Pimpin ' " was released on JVC Victor. A year later, in 2005, followed by her first album, " Pimp Master" from which the singles " Waltz For Goddess" and the cover version of "A Wheel Within a Wheel " in Europe attracted attention. Gilles Peterson Worldwide on BBC Radio 1 in, and further show host and performer of the group helped to break outside of the Japanese jazz scene.

In the summer of the same year was followed by a second mini album (" Summer Goddess" ), and - at the invitation of Gilles Peterson's back - the first appearance at London's Cargo. The Berlin Nu Jazz collective Jazzanova invited the Soil & "Pimp " Sessions then to Berlin, where they gave another performance. It was followed by other performances within and outside Japan.

Also in 2005 the group during the Gilles Peterson Worldwide Awards was awarded the John Peel Play More Jazz Award. "Pimp of the Year" - the second album - was released in the spring of 2006, which shows an evolution in style and the musical quality. This was followed in the same year, the publication of "Pimp Master" in Europe Compost Records, and in the UK at Gilles Peterson's label Brownswood Recording.

Furthermore, the group gave some performances in Belgium, Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Croatia and Slovakia, as well as an appearance during the Montreux Jazz Festival.

In March 2007, the third album " PIMPOINT " followed at Victor Entertainment with 13 pieces which reflect the character of the Heavy jazz band. The song " Paraiso " is used since October 2008, as the opening theme for the anime Michiko to Hatchin.
