Soing - Cubry - Charentenay is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Soing - Cubry - Charentenay situated at an altitude of 205 m above sea level, about 22 km west of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the west of the department, on the southern edge of the Saôneniederung, north of the plateau of the Bois de Soing.

The area of ​​28.63 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the middle Saône Valley. The northern boundary runs mostly along the Saone, which flows here with large loops through a wide Alluvialniederung to the southwest. The flood plain is on average 200 m and has a maximum width of two kilometers on. The river is expanded to the waterway, the loops are cut through side channels. Therefore not used by the channel track pieces show natural riverside areas, and the river is here in several places islands.

From the river, the municipality's area extends southward over the flood plain and up to 50 m high steep slope on the adjacent plateau. This plateau consists of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly sediments of the upper Jurassic period. It is divided by the valley of the Ruisseau des Puits, which is dammed to several ponds and flows Cubry in the Saône, and other wells. The fertile soils of the valley and the plateau are mainly used for agricultural purposes. With 268 m is reached on the knoll east of Soing the highest elevation of Soing - Cubry - Charentenay. History

The territory was inhabited in prehistoric times, which is a tumulus on the corridor La Motte testifies. In the Middle Ages the area of Franche-Comté and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont belonged. For Soing the spellings Soings, Soynx, Soinx and Sainz are handed down from the Middle Ages. The name comes from the Old French word back saigne (bottom ). Soing and Cubry were ever a fief of the free county. That of Soing belonged to the rule Fouvent before 1256 went over to the family Vergy and 1302 to the Lords of Rupt which it occupied until the French Revolution. Charentenay is first mentioned in 1242. The place name derives from the Gallic personal name and the suffix - acum Carento and means as much as the courtyard of the Carento. It was owned by the Hospitallers.

Together with the Franche -Comté reached the villages with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. To a field change occurred in 1972 when the previously independent municipality Soing (1968: 297 inhabitants), Cubry -lès- Soing (1968: 103 inhabitants) and Charentenay (1968: 75 inhabitants) to the new community Soing - Cubry - Charentenay merged.

Attractions

The Church of Soing was rebuilt in the 18th century in classical style. In-room amenities include a richly carved pulpit, paneling in the Louis XVI style and a statue group. Also from the 18th century, comes the Church of Charentenay with grave plates and furniture from the building time. The Church of Cubry (19th century) has furniture in the Empire style. With 487 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Soing - Cubry - Charentenay is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône.
