The Sokobanjska Moravica (also Moravica ) is a right tributary of the South Morava ( South Morava ) in the east of Serbia. It is 60.4 km long and has a catchment area of 625 km ². It flows through the town Aleksinac and the famous Serbian spa town Sokobanja, as well as many villages in the region. Rights tributaries of Sokobanjska Moravica are the Seselačka, Blendijska, Izgarska and Trgoviška Reka. The left tributary is the Gradašnica. The Moravica fills the artificial lake Bovansko Jezero, which is located 12 km west from the city of Sokobanja. The lake in turn supplies water for the region around Aleksinac, Sokobanja and Knjaževac. After 60 km, the Moravica empties into the South Morava, in turn, in the Morava, which flows into the Danube and as part of the river system of the Danube. The Moravica is often used by the public for swimming. Through its rich and large Artenfielfalt to fish the Sokobanjska Moravica is very popular with anglers. The course of Moravica is divided into an upper part and a lower part. The upper part is the drive through the mountain ranges of the region around Banja Sokobanja. The lower part is the way of Sokobanjska Moravica down to the lake Bovansko Jezero and the city Aleksinac.

Devica and Ozren mountains

The source of Moravica is located on the eastern slope of the mountain range Devica, more precisely on the same mountain near the hamlet Skrobnica that belongs to the village Vrelo in Opština Aleksinac. From the village Vrelo the Moravica flows northward, but turns back west to the village Levovik, which now belongs to Opština Sokobanja. And thus reached the Banja region in the east of Serbia. You now flows between the mountain ranges Devica in the south, the mountain range in the north and the mountain range Ozren Rtanj in the southwest. The Moravica flows through the villages Čitluk ( Sokobanja ) Žučkovac, Blendija, Dugo Polje (where the " Moravica Gorge " is located) and reaches the community center and the center of Banja region, the spa town of Sokobanja. This ends the upper reaches of the Moravica.

The lake " Bovansko Jezero "

Now the lower reaches of the Moravica begins. After flowing through the villages Poružnica and Trubarevac the Sokobanjska Moravica turns south, flows through the western mountains of Ozrengebirgszug and the southern mountains of Bukovikgebirgszug. In the village Bovan the Moravica part of the plan for the regulation of the Morava, the main river of the whole of Central Serbia. The Moravica feeds the Bovasnko Jezero, a fish-rich artificial lake which has become a local and regional tourist attraction that is popular with anglers and hikers. Now the Moravica flows south through many forests and smaller canyons, reached the Opština Aleksinac, flows through the villages of Kraljevo and Subotinac and empties into Aleksinac in the South Morava. Previously, the lower reaches of the Moravica was very affected by coal mining. But the mines around the city Aleksinački Rudnik are now closed. The Moravica part of the river system of the Danube, which flows into the Black Sea, covers 625 km ² and is not navigable.
