Sokorbé is a rural municipality in the department of Loga in Niger.

Geography

Sokorbé is located at the junction of the Sahel to large landscape Sudan. The municipality is in 22 administrative villages, 35 traditional villages ( including Goudel ) analyzed a hamlet and 23 stock. The main town of the rural community is the administrative village Sokorbé. The neighboring municipalities are Sokorbés Loga in the north, mokko in the east, the south and Garankédey Dantchandou in the West.

History

Sokorbé was around the year 1800, established in a previously uninhabited area of Maouri, a subgroup of the Hausa, who came from Matankari under their leader Tamo. The successor Tamos bore the title Mayaki.

The rural community Sokorbé was founded in 2002 at a nationwide administrative reform from the Canton Sokorbé forth.

Population

At the 2001 census Sokorbé had 29 253 inhabitants. For the year 2010 39.177 inhabitants were calculated. The population is majority owned by the ethnic group of the Zarma, Fulani and Tuareg followed by. There is also an influx of Hausa.

Economy and infrastructure

The municipality is located in a zone is operated in the rain-fed agriculture. Of economic importance is also the labor migration abroad.
