Solar eclipse of April 17, 1996

The partial solar eclipse of 17 April 1996 took place in the South Pacific, in an area where there are very few islands. It is true that New Zealand was in darkness zone, but there the coverage was very low: less than 10 percent of the solar disk were covered from the moon.

It was the last partial eclipse of Saros 148 in its construction phase, which was with 20 partial eclipses unusually long. The following eclipse of Saros 148 will take place on 29 April 2014 and its 42 following are all central eclipses. These are first annular and total eclipses are eventually in. After the reduction phase with 12 other partial solar eclipses follows. In total, Saros 148, which is active until December 12, 2987 September 21, 1653 75 eclipses in the following:

  • 20 partial, annular 2, 1 annular - total, 40 complete and 12 partial
