Solar eclipse of July 13, 2018

In the solar eclipse of 13 July 2018 is a purely partial eclipse, the earth is therefore only be taken from the penumbra of the moon. The darkness is part of the old Saros 117, which is nearing its end. Just three Sarosperioden later in August 2072, it is no longer to be a solar eclipse. Therefore, it is already one month later on 11 August to a renewed modest partial eclipse. However, this takes place in the northern polar region and belongs to the young Saros 155

The visibility area comprises the sea area between Australia and Antarctica; which of the two continents, only a small tip is detected. As with all pure partial solar eclipses the maximum phase is reached near the poles, where the sun is always at the point of maximum phase on the horizon. The area around the Australian city of Melbourne, however, experienced a very modest solar eclipse; only a maximum of 2 percent of the solar surface covered by the moon. Not even the whole state of Victoria is covered by the penumbra of the moon, most of the rest of Australia gets nothing.
