Solingen Hauptbahnhof is the main railway station of Solingen. It is located in Ohligsberg district on the railway line between Wuppertal and Cologne.

History

The main train station is also the first station in the area of the present town of Solingen. It was opened with the opening of the railway line Gruiten -Cologne- Mülheim by the Bergisch- Märkische Railway Company on September 25, 1867 near Ohligsberg and initially received the name Ohligsberg forest.

This station has been built and the branch line to Solingen in the same year. 1890 dropped the suffix " forest " away, and with the incorporation of Ohligsberg to Solingen finally got the station in 1929, the name of Solingen- Ohligs.

In 1894 came with the railway line from Hilden added a third compound, which the station was the junction station.

Traffic importance of Ohligser station exceeded always been that of the other stations of Solingen and also of the old central station, as only the Ohligser station is located on a remote railway line and thus stopping point for long-distance traffic was, was so repeatedly discussed, to call him a Solingen main station and the old Hauptbahnhof rename accordingly. These discussions, however, initially came to nothing, which is why the station kept its name until the end of 2006.

With the decommissioning of the old Central Station in May 2006, the discussions were fueled again and the timetable change on 10 December 2006, the station finally received the name Solingen Hauptbahnhof. In this context, the station forecourt ( Bremsheyplatz ) with the terminal loop and taxi rank has been completely redesigned.

As part of the economic stimulus programs the reception building will be renovated with energy-related measures by DB Station & Service AG. In addition, the appreciation of the traffic areas and improving comfort in the waiting areas is planned.
