History

The town of Solothurn was already on June 1, 1857 it's first for the line of the Swiss Central Railway ( SCB) of Olten on Herzogenbuchsee to Solothurn. This station was on the north side of the river Aare, although even then the SCB would have preferred a railway station on the south side of the River Aare.

The leadership of a train Olten -Solothurn about Herzogenbuchsee was further complicated because this had to navigate a hairpin there. The Gäubahn was opened on December 4, 1876, in Solothurn as a reception building only stood by a makeshift. Due to its location in the field of the suburbs and partly outside the development boundary of Solothurn, the station was known as New Solothurn. This designation was abandoned in 1915, since then the station is referred to only as Solothurn station.

With the opening of the railway station New Solothurn the existing station was renamed in Old Solothurn; this designation he held until the summer of 1915. Alt -Solothurn was. Due to the SMB to the branch station, but ended the SMB trains from the beginning usually in the then new Solothurn Later Alt -Solothurn Solothurn was renamed West, which label the station still carries today.
