When the killings began a film directed by Raoul Peck from the year 2005. It tells the story of two brothers during and after the genocide in Rwanda, partly at the same locations as the film Hotel Rwanda, such as the Hôtel des Mille Collines.

While Augustin Muganza, himself a Hutu married to a Tutsi, however, loses his family, his brother Honoré is one of the cheerleaders for the genocide, which must be tried by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in Arusha.

Awards

The film was shown in competition at the Berlinale 2005. During the award ceremony of the film was, however, empty-handed. Also on this year's Berlinale was the film Hotel Rwanda to see the deals with the same subject. Sometimes in April won later in the same year the film festival in Durban.
