Sonoita AVA

Sonoita AVA is on 26 October 1984, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives recognized wine region in the U.S. state of Arizona.

Location

The American Viticultural Area Sonoita is located in southeastern Arizona, south of the metropolitan area of Tucson. The cultivation area surrounding the mountain ranges Huachuca Mountains, Santa Rita Mountains and Whetstone Mountains. The vineyards are located at an altitude 1400-1500 m, making them among the highest on the North American continent. The area is sparsely populated. Patagonia is the largest town (about 900 inhabitants) on the Sonoita Creek. The soil is an alluvial fan from kieshaltigem clay that has good water retention capacity.
