Sophie Lamon

Sophie Lamon (born 8 February 1985 in Sion / Sion) is a former Swiss epee fencer.

Lamon is one of the most successful fencers of Switzerland. At the age of 15, she reached at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney the silver medal with the team at Gianna Hablützel - Bürki, Diana Romagnoli and Tabea Steffen, only in the finale they were inferior to the Russian team.

That same year, the Lamon succeeded European title in Madeira, also it was 2000 World Champion in the Cadets. In 2001, she was again with the Swiss epee team, Vice World Champion. Again the final against Russia was lost. In the following years Lamon reached no further major successes, also failed to qualify for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. In 2005, she was two - time Junior World Champion in Linz, both in single as well as with the team succeeded her the title. The Swiss Sports Aid Foundation drew Lamon as a junior athlete of the year 2005.

After the Junior World Championships to Lamon end of 2006 had to undergo hip surgery, so she managed to qualify for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing until the last opportunity by finishing third at the zone tournament in Prague. At the Olympics, she managed a victory over the Venezuelan outsider Maria Gabriela Martinez, in the second round it but was thwarted by the Li Na set to number 4.
