Sophie Vouzelaud

Sophie Vouzelaud ( born June 21, 1987 in Saint- Junien ) represented the Limousin region at the 2007 Miss France election.

Life and career

Vouzelaud was born deaf. She is currently doing her Bachelor's degree in accounting.

Vouzelaud is the first deaf or hard of hearing person who participated in the finals of Miss France. It communicates via sign language and insisted to give a speech at the finale. Vouzelaud requested, to represent France with the consent and support of the Miss France 2007 Rachel Legrain - Trapani in the Miss World beauty pageant in order to draw attention to deaf people. However, the organizers rejected this on the grounds that only the winner - so in this case Legrain - Trapani - may represent their country.

In the Miss International 2007 election in Japan Vouzelaud could not qualify for the top 15.
