Sören Wibe

Sören Wibe Axel ( born October 8, 1946 in Ostersund, † 29 December 2010) was a Swedish economist and politician euro skeptical.

Life

Wibe from 1995 to 1999 Member of the European Parliament for the Swedish Social Democrats and from 2002 to 2006 Member of the Swedish Parliament. Since July 6, 2008, he was party leader of the Swedish June List. In January 2009, he was elected President of the European party EUDemokraten - Chosen Alliance for a Europe of Democracies, a coalition of political movements from 15 European countries.

Sören Wibe was most recently a professor of economics at the University of Umea. He was one of the most prominent critics of the EU in the Social Democratic Party of Sweden. In April 2008, he resigned from the party and called a few broken promises on EU issues and judgments of the European Court as a reason that would supposedly restrict the position of the trade unions and the right to strike in Sweden. Wibe also participated actively in the European No Campaign against the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe.

Shortly after his discharge from the Social Democratic Party, he was elected one of the co-chairs of the newly formed June List, together with Annika Eriksson. In January 2009, Eriksson resigned from her post back, since then led Wibe the party alone and was also the leading candidate for the European elections in 2009.

Sören Wibe died on 29 December 2010 after a short illness at the age of 64 years.
