Sound of Jura

The Jura Sound (Gaelic: An Linne Rosach ) is a strait in Scotland. It separates the Hebridean island of Jura in the east of the region from Knapdale on the mainland UK. In the north are numerous small islands. The Jura Sound runs in a north -south direction and tapers to the north. At its narrowest point, it is about six miles wide. North of Jura the strait is across the street from Corryvreckan, the Jura and Scarba separates connected to the Atlantic Ocean. Administratively belongs to the Jura Sound to Council Area Argyll and Bute.

Along the coast of Knapdale of Sund forms several bays, including Loch Sween and Loch Caolisport. About the ending in Loch Crinan Crinan Canal the Jura Sound is connected to the inlet of Loch Fyne east of Knapdale and Kintyre. The coastal areas are sparsely populated on both sides. Nevertheless, the majority of the most sparsely populated Jura lives on this coast, which was also the main town of Craig House is situated.

The Jura Sound is not to be confused with the Sound of Islay, which separates the Jura in the west of the neighboring island of Islay.
