History

The islands in Lake Champlain were, as evidenced by various sites, inhabited for several thousand years, when the French from 1734 to the colonization of the north, the Canada of today, began. At this time the area of the Great Islands was provided for unified management. After the conquest of the area by the British and the subsequent independence of the United States, such separation is changed, however: the area was divided into the peninsula of present-day Alburgh and the three large islands in the lake. The area Two Heros, which was divided in 1798 in the areas of North Hero, Middle Hero and South Hero, 1779 advertised for colonization; 1783 it came under Colonel Ebenezer Allan to first reclamation by 365 veterans of the Revolutionary War, to which the country had been awarded. Middle Hero, the northern part of Grand Isle, South Hero is also on, was until 1810 also managed by South Hero, but then under the name of Grand Isle independently.

The origin of the initial name Two Heros is not unique; usually are Ethan Allen and Samuel Herrick, who were also among the colonizers, so associated. Occasionally, instead of Samuel Herrick Ethan's brother Ira, also one of the colonizer, called.
