Milton is a town in Chittenden County, the State of Vermont in the United States with 10,537 inhabitants according to the census of 2010 .. It is located about twenty kilometers north of Greater Burlington at the base of Arrowhead Mountain and a few kilometers east of the northern shore of Lake Champlain.

The area was proclaimed a settlement by Benning Wentworth on June 8, 1763 belonged to the founding of Vermont in 1777 for the state of New Hampshire, but was permanently inhabited until 1782. It was named after a relative of Wentworth, William Fitzwilliam, Viscount Milton. The residents of the area called their place, however, "Checker Berry", according to an evergreen plant that often grows in the area. Established in 1890, the post office was the official name of the main town, Milton Center, but when it closed six years later due to inefficiency of the locals returned to their self-chosen name. Only in the 1920s, the official name prevailed final.

In the years after the founding of the settlers lived primarily from the timber industry, which passed in 1840 in dairy farming. Even today, dairy farms in Milton are widespread, although the area has largely developed into a residential and dormitory town for commuters from the Burlington metropolitan area.
