South Burlington is a town in Chittenden County, the State of Vermont in the United States and with 17 904 inhabitants ( according to the census of 2010 ), the third largest city in Vermont. It is located on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain and is part of the large industrial space Burlington.

The place was originally established as part of the Burlington Town in 1763, but with the spin-off of the former Villages Burlington for independent City in 1864 South Burlington became independent as remaining rural structured rest. Only with the development of Burlington Vermont's industrial center after the Second World War changed the appearance of the community until they, too, was in 1971 declared a City.

As part of the conurbation around Burlington South Burlington experiencing great popularity. Between 1980 and 2010 the population increased by about 2/3 of 10,679 at 17 904 inhabitants; compared to 2000, there was an increase of 13.2%. By comparison, the population growth of Vermont was between 2000 and 2010 at around 3%. The place serves primarily as a bedroom community for Burlington, but also includes even some industrial settlements on. So here is the ice cream maker Ben & Jerry's was founded, which, however, now relocated to Waterbury, and a local airline has its headquarters here.

The city is crossed by Interstate 89; Interstate 189, a short connection to U.S. Highway 7, branches off here. The U.S. Highway 2 runs through the city. At the northeastern outskirts is the Burlington International Airport, about 3.5 miles from city center South Burlington. A direct rail link no longer exists, although the railway Bellows Falls Burlington runs through the city; but runs from near Burlington from the Ethan Allen Express daily to New York City.

The city offers all the schools through high school; Colleges and universities are also represented diverse in the vicinity. As churches, one Catholic and one reformed Jewish community are represented, also, there are communities of the Assemblies of God, the Methodists and the Episcopalians. The responsible hospital is found in Burlington.
