Bakersfield is a city in the state of Vermont in the United States. The city is located in the Green Mountains, about 30 kilometers east of Lake Champlain. The 1,322 inhabitants ( according to the census of 2010) live primarily from the forest and forestry; since about 1970, the place increasingly become a bedroom community for commuters in the southern industrial centers.

The village was after her second owner, the settlers Joseph Baker, named the entire area in 1798 or 1799 bought. Originally, the site had been the settlers Luke Knowlton awarded (or Knoulton ), which is also reflected in the official name: In ancient records we find occasionally the name Bakersfield alias Knoultons Gore. 1792 were added to the municipality parts of Fairfield and the former Smithfield, in 1795 the former Knights Gore and 1963 Avery's Gore.

In Bakersfield two religious communities are located: The United Church of Christ and a Methodist church. In addition, Bakersfield has a public library and a middle school. The nearest towns are in Fairfield, about ten kilometers to the west, Enosburgh in the north ( about 10 miles) and Jeffersonville, about 15 kilometers south.
