Southland Region

Southland is the southernmost of the administrative regions of New Zealand. It is in the district of Southland, which occupies the greater part of the region, and the small district Gore divided in the northeast of the region. Capital city is Invercargill. In addition to portions of the southern peninsula is also one nor the third largest island of New Zealand, Stewart Island to the administrative region.

Southland is bordered on the northeast by the Otago region and in the far north to West Coast.

Nature

In the region are the famous National Park Fiordland National Park and Rakiura National Park. Also located to the Fiordland National Park, a large part of the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Area, which includes four New Zealand national parks and are under the protection of UNESCO in this region.
