Souvlaki

Souvlaki (also souvlaki, Greek σουβλάκι ) literally means " skewer (sing. ) ". It is from a Greek court in oregano, salt, pepper and lemon marinated pork, which is inserted after the marinade on wooden skewers and grilled over charcoal embers. Partly also lamb or chicken meat is used for souvlaki.

In Greece, Souvlaki is in larger towns and cities - the currywurst as in Germany - offered at each snack and fast food restaurant. Souvlaki is in Greece either "pure" enjoyed on a skewer, usually with a little lemon juice, salt, oregano and a slice of white bread, or under the name " souvlaki pita " serves as a manual at: not wooden skewer, wrapped in a pita bread with tomatoes, onions, tzatziki and fries. However, it is also available as a one-course meal in the restaurant - for groups in large quantities (photo).

In Turkish cuisine, it is eaten with marinated lamb, tomatoes and peppers as Şiş Kebap. In the Serbian and Croatian cuisine, a similar dish with the name Raznjici exists.
