The woodpecker heads are several peaks of the mountain range bar in the Berchtesgaden Alps, whose main peak is named head woodpecker and 1285 m above sea level. MSL. This summit is adorned with a cross, which can be seen both from Bad Reichenhall and by Bavarian Gmain from. The peaks are located in the southwestern municipality of Bavarian Gmain. The peak to the municipal boundary between Bavarian Gmain ( same district ) and Bad Reichenhall ( district forestry St. Zeno ).

On the summit lead different paths that can be combined into a circular path. One of the ways is by Bavarian Gmain over the Wappach and Wappachkopf ( 800 m) to Dötzenkopf (1001 m or 1007 m = the underlying dome ).

From woodpecker head, a path leads further to the Schlegel trough between pulpit ( 1613 m) and high Schlegel (1688 m).
