Spectrum Brands is a listed American conglomerate based in Middleton (Wisconsin ).

The company's products are sold under the following brands:

  • Batteries under the Rayovac and VARTA brands
  • Electric razors and hair cutters under the brand Remington
  • Herbicides, insecticides and fertilizers under the brand names Spectracide, and Schultz Garden Safe
  • Defense against insects ( repellent) under the brands Cutter, Repel and Hot Shot
  • Fish food and aquarium accessories under the brand names Tetra, Marineland and Jungle
  • Household electrical appliances (SDA = Small Domestic Appliances ) with the brand Russell Hobbs
  • Pet supplies under the brands Dingo, 8 in 1, and Nature's Miracles

Sales in fiscal 2013 nearly $ 4.3 billion, the same year 13,500 employees in 55 countries were under contract.

History

1906, the French Battery Company in Madison (Wisconsin ) was founded. In the 30s of the 20th century, the company was renamed Rayovac. In 1989 they acquired Vidor Crompton Parkinson. In 1996, the private equity firm Thomas H. Lee Rayovac and led the company public in 1997. 2002 Rayovac acquires the retail banking division of the batteries VARTA, 2003 Remington Products Company. 2005 buys Rayovac Tetra GmbH and is called since Spectrum Brands. On February 3, 2009 Spectrum Brands announced officially that the bankruptcy under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code of the United States had been requested. On 28 August 2009 the bankruptcy has been completed and Spectrum Brands left the creditor protection under Chapter 11
