Spreelauf

The Spreelauf is a stages ultramarathon, which leads some 400 km along the river Spree. For the first time the event was held in 2000 and was repeated in 2001, 2002 and 2004. All events organized by Ingo Schulze. 2003 had to rest for the event because the organizers performed the TranseuropaLauf at this time. The event was replaced by the Germany running since 2005.

The idea to organize an ultramarathon along the Spree, had Henry Wehder, who grew up in the headwaters of the River Spree. He could win Ingo Schulze as the organizer, up to then only with experience in organizing stage races in Germany. Wehder himself took the route reconnaissance and marking the route for the first Spreelauf. In the follow-up events he was himself the participants.

The first Spreelauf led from source to mouth. Due to the lack of interest of the Berlin hamlet of Spandau in the event the route in the following year was reversed. The community Eibau Forest village made in each year with the Spreequell hard on the Kottmar for enthusiastic mood at the finish.

The route runs along the Spree Cycle Route and mostly comes from without the use of federal roads, which this run of runs as the running and Germany TranseuropaLauf differs greatly, thus underlining the character of a country race. An exception is the stage through Berlin, where some busy roads and traffic lights are on the track.
