Springsure, Queensland

Springsure is a small town in Queensland, 66 km south Emerald and 765 km north-west of Brisbane.

The first Europeans who came to the area was Ludwig Leichhardt, the later European settlers followed. In the area around Springsure it came in 1872 to Opalfunden in volcanic rock, in rhyolite and basalt. However, the opals were hardly commercially viable, as the opals were cracked after their exposure and easily broke. In addition, losses were the colors of the game under the atmospheric conditions.

To Springsure there are several coal mines, such as the Minerva and the Rolleton mine that are of economic importance. Important for Springsure today is the cattle and the cultivation of sunflower, sorghum, millet, wheat and chickpeas.

Tourism

There is an airport, caravan park, a hospital, a library, motocross track and police time station, gas station and exhibition grounds. Near the town of Carnarvon National Park is located.
