Square Enix Europe

Square Enix Limited, also known as Square Enix Europe, is a UK games software company and a subsidiary of Square Enix. Before takeover by Square Enix, the company operated under the name of SCi Entertainment Group and later Eidos plc.

Company History

The company was founded in 1988 by Jane Cavanagh under the name The Sales Curve. In 1994, the company renamed itself Sales Curve Interactive, since the IPO on the London Stock Exchange in 1999, the company finally appeared as SCi Entertainment Group plc, its games drove the company through its subsidiary SCi Games. 2005 took over the competitors SCi Eidos Interactive, all games have since been released under the label Eidos.

In December 2006 Warner Bros. Entertainment acquired 10.3 % stake in SCi Entertainment, SCi received in return the right to develop games for licenses from Warner Bros., including Batman.

In January 2008, company founder, Jane Cavanagh resigned after failed takeover talks for the chipped Publisher to pressure from shareholders from her post as CEO, with her left two other leading employees. Successor Cavanaghs was her former CFO Phil Rogers. In February 2008 SCi dismissed 200 employees (around 25% of the workforce) due to shrinking revenues and higher losses. At the end of the financial year 2007/2008 ( deadline 30 June) SCi had an annual turnover of 119 million pounds ( 150.5 million euros ) at a net loss of 136 million pounds ( 172 million euros ). In April 2008, Warner Bros. Entertainment increased his stake to 35 %, in addition, the distribution rights were acquired on SCi titles in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The end of 2008 SCi Entertainment took the name of his publishing daughter and changed its name to Eidos plc.

In March 2009, Eidos plc was taken over by Japanese publisher Square Enix, the purchase price was 84.3 million British pounds ( ~ 120 million U.S. dollars). After the merger with Square Enix's European headquarters in November 2009 the company was renamed Square Enix Europe. The management of the subsidiary took over the former Eidos CEO Phil Rogers, another Eidos manager took over leading positions in the joint venture.
