Srpuhi Kalfayan

Srpuhi ( Mayrabed ) Nschan Kalfayan (Armenian Սրբուհի Մայրապետ Նշան Գալֆաեան; born February 17, 1822 in Kartal, Konstantin Opel, † July 4, 1889 in Hasköy, Konstantin Opel ) was an Armenian foundress.

With 12 years Srpuhi Nschan Kalfayan lost her father. As an orphan she vowed to become a nun. 1840 she moved to the habit. She founded the Kalfayan Order. In 1850 she founded a vocational school for girls from poor families. 1865 mobilized financial support for the victims of a cholera epidemic with great success. On January 1, 1866, she opened a Kalfayan the Medal belonging orphanage for girls in Hasköy in Constantinople Opel. She died on 4 July 1889.
