Staatstheater Braunschweig

The Staatstheater Braunschweig is a five- division house in Brunswick. It shows each year about 30 premieres in the fields of drama, musical theater (opera, operetta, musicals ), dance, and in the category of children 's and youth theater as a Young State Theatre. The fifth division is the Braunschweig State Orchestra. There is no summer break, as every summer (since 2003) built up and recorded on the Brunswick Castle Square an open air theater with 1,200 seats. On the Little House in the summer also special performances in the block instead.

History

Today's State Theater Braunschweig is the oldest public multi-use theater in Germany, his beginnings as Court Theatre dates back to the year 1690. Herzog Anton Ulrich von Braunschweig -founded the Opera House on Hagen market. The Court Theatre was one of the first public theaters in the German-speaking and initially a venue for operas. From the 18th century also plays including numerous premieres as Emilia Galotti ( 1772) and Faust I (1829 ) were listed. Until the early 19th century, the theater company had no fixed ensemble cast, the stage of the Hagen Market Theatre was previously played by itinerant troupes, which included the troops of Friederike Caroline Neuber. 1818, the stage was raised to the National Theatre and received a standing stage with a fixed dedicated ensemble. 1826, the theater was however again downgraded the Ducal Court Theatre, as it no longer met the increased demands of a modern operating theater, was so started a new theater. The Opera House at Hagen market was closed in 1861 due to disrepair and in 1864 demolished.

The " Big House "

On 1 October 1861, after five years of construction, the " Big House ", the new venue at Steinweg, inaugurated. With the construction of the theater of the Ducal Park was divided into two parts, the Theatre Square and the Museum Park. During the Second World War, the theater and the intimate theater in the Grotrian Hall were largely destroyed in the bombing on 15 October 1944. The " Big House " was reopened after its passed through Johann Daniel Thulesius recovery on December 25, 1948, a performance of Don Giovanni as one of the first German theater of the postwar era. In the intimate theater in the Kant University was played on 23 September 1945 to 30 July 1949. The " Big House " was re-opened after a major overhaul of the stage area on 15 December 1990. Was on December 16, 1949, first as a temporary "Little House " located in the distant Grünewaldstraße. The new "Little House " (built in 1992-1996 under the direction of architect offices Lindemann Thamm ) was opened on Magnitorwall in March 1996, diagonally opposite the " Big House ".
