Stad Amsterdam

The Stad Amsterdam is a three-mast clipper steely hull and full ship - rigging. It was completed in 2000 and continues under the Dutch flag.

History

As a joint project between the city of Amsterdam and the Randstad staffing company was started in December of 1997 with the construction of the hull in the ladies Oranjewerf, Amsterdam. The ship was designed by the architect Gerard Dijkstra based on the old clipper, especially the frigate ship Amsterdam from the mid-19th century, however, as steel was the use of modern materials not waived for the hull and technical equipment. After completion of the hull of the further expansion of the vessel was continued before the Maritime Museum in Amsterdam.

Was built the ship mainly of job seekers and school leavers, which thus an education and a new perspective was given. The costs amount to about 20 million marks.

In the summer, the ship was finally baptized in the name Stad Amsterdam and presented at the Sail Amsterdam 2000, the public. In 2005 she was the flagship of Sail in Amsterdam.

Since then she has on the oceans as a school and a charter vessel for guests on the go, and also takes part in regattas and sailors meeting. In 2001 won the Stad Amsterdam, the Cutty Sark Tall Ships ' Race.
