The Stade René Gaillard is a football stadium with track and field facility in Niort, Deux- Sèvres in the Poitou -Charentes, France.

History

Opened on August 3, 1974 under the name Stade Venise Verte and later at the Stade René Gaillard after the former Mayor of Niort ( 1971-1985 ) René Gaillard renamed. Today it has 10898 seats including 9553 seats and 21 seats for disabled. It is the venue of Chamois Niort.

Chamois Niort rose in 1987 in the first division; but increased at the end of the season the same again. There was a season in this. On October 24, 1987 ( 1-0) gathered at the game - Chamois Niort Olympique Marseille record crowd of 16715 spectators in the stands of the stadium.

In 2006, there were some renovations to the venue as the security of the guest parking lot, installation of new surveillance cameras in the stadium and modernization of the players' dressing rooms. Despite considering this work, the Stade René Gaillard no longer meets today's demands for comfort, boxes or equipment for journalists. For some years there are new plans; but were vorschoben over again.

2004, they started with the announcement of the construction project. The stadium was to have 12,000 seats; comply with the requirements of the French second division and its possible a simple expansion to 20,000 seats. The design of the Chilean architect Borja Huidobro was selected in late 2004 and would cost approximately € 29 million. The construction has been postponed again by the City Council. The project is set up at unknown time on ice.
