The stadium Evžena Rošického is a stadium in the Czech capital Prague. It lies in direct proximity to the west Strahov Stadium; once the largest stadium in the world with 220,000 seats.

History

Built from 1931 to 1935, it was first called Masarykův stadium after the former Czechoslovak president Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. The capacity was 50,000 seats. Later it was in the stadium Československé Armády ( German: Stadium of the Czechoslovak Army ) renamed. The capacity decreased significantly in the 1990s, when standing were converted into seats.

The football club Slavia Prague was here from 2000 to 2008 its home games after his former, now demolished, Stadion Eden had become unfit for the 1st league. Earlier, it was one of the venues of the Czech national football team. Named the stadium today after the former athletes and resistance fighters Evžen Rosicky, who was executed on 25 June 1942.

The second division side SK Sparta Krc wore in the 2007/ 08 season from its home matches at Evžena Rošického Stadium, because the space of the club did not meet the criteria for professional football. Inside the stadium, often the final of the Czech Football Cup takes place. From 29 August, the 12th European Athletics Championships were held at the stadium until 3 September 1978.

Structure

The capacity is 18,775 seats. There are 213 VIP seats and 63 seats for media representatives ready. Equipped with an athletics track and a 1400 Lux strong floodlights Stadium has round about double storey stands, the upper rank is covered.
