Stanisławów Voivodeship

The Stanisławów Voivodeship (Polish: WojewĂłdztwo Stanisławowskie ) was in the years 1921 to 1939 a province of the Second Polish Republic. The office of the Administrator and the capital was Stanisławów ( Stanislav, now Ivano -Frankivsk ).

Statistical data

The province lay in the extreme south of Poland and covered an area of 18,368 km ² originally. The population was 1.348 million in 1921, of which 22 % Poland, 7 % were Jews and 1,466 million in 1931, of which 23 % Polish and 7 % were Jews. The vast majority of the population ( 940 555 inhabitants ) were the Ukrainians.

September 1939 and its aftermath

In September 1939, German and Soviet troops invaded Poland, the country and the province Stanisławów the Ukrainian Soviet Republic were incorporated. After 1945, the area remained with the Soviet Union, now part of the former province Stanisławów in large parts of Ukraine Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, as well as smaller parts of the Lviv Oblast on.
