Stanko Vraz

Born as Slovene, he studied in Graz and wrote initially in his native dialect, but then went over to the Croatian Illyrism and became one of the most ardent representatives of the same as one of the best Croatian poet. After his death he was buried in the Mirogoj cemetery in Zagreb.

It appeared from him, among other things:

  • Djulabije (Love Songs, 1840)
  • Gkasi iz Dubrave žeravinske (1841 )
  • Guslie i tambura (1845 )

Also he was since 1841 the Illyrian magazine Kolo and a valuable collection of folk songs from Styria, Carniola, Carinthia, etc. ( Národne Pesme etc., Agram 1839) out. His collected works were published with the correspondence of the poet in five volumes ( 1863-77 Agram ).
