Stanley Glover

Stanley Glover ( Stanley Brooks "Stan" Glover, born April 18, 1908 in Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, † February 23, 1964 in Saskatoon, Canada) was a Canadian athlete.

Career

In the English- born Newcastle upon Tyne, Glover emigrated in his early childhood with his family to Canada. After a short stay in Edmonton he grew from 1913 in Saskatoon and was already manifested in his youth as a marksman and athlete a name in the region. After finishing school, he concentrated on athletics and 1925 Canadian champion in the 440- yard run.

His consistent performance brought Glover 's nomination for the Canadian 4-by- 400-meter relay at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam. There, the team won in the lineup James Ball, Glover, Phil Edwards and Alex Wilson the bronze medal behind the U.S. and the German relay.

In the British Empire Games in 1930 in Hamilton Glover won as the final runner of the Canadian 4-by- 440- yard relay team along with Alex Wilson, Style Scott and James Ball the silver medal behind English and ahead of the South African team. However, he already resigned from his single start about 440 yards after the heats. Glover ended his athletics career in 1932. Afterwards he was curling at the regional level successfully and remained true to the sport until his death in 1964.
