The man from another planet is an American science fiction television series that was produced 1986-1987 ABC.
The series, of which only the first 20 parts were dubbed into German, is based on John Carpenter's movie Starman with Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen from the year 1984. Executive producer was in both the movie and in the TV series Michael Douglas.
Action
The series takes place 15 years after the film and is about the return of the aliens in the body of a freshly killed in a helicopter crash photo journalist named Paul Edward Forester. This would his son Scott, he "visit" begat the first help to find his lost mother, Jenny Hayden.
Each episode is about how father and son from place to place, pull to find Scott's mother; yet they are always on the run from the government in incarnation by the FSA Agent George Fox and Wylie. In their search, they often take on vulnerable people and Scott tries his alien father to explain what it means to be human.
Connected both by a small silver ball extraterrestrial origin with a diameter of about three to four centimeters. This allows both to communicate and to project thoughts, and it has limited telekinetic properties. The Extra-Terrestrial, Forrester, teaches his son Scott in the course of the series, as he can use the ball by focusing his thoughts; so this creates in the sequence Blue Lights using his thoughts and the ball a rotating ring of blue lights.
Forrester and Scott try Agent Fox, the UFO investigator of the government to be always one step ahead. This provides both a danger to humanity and does not tolerate it, that they can move freely in society. This is well expressed, as Forrester Fox wants to convey at a capture that is the future of the world in the children. Fox then reacts with hostility and expresses that Scott was a kind of mutant and thus unacceptable. Forrester nevertheless feels no hatred for Fox and rescues him, even after a life-threatening injury, the life before he and Scott have escaped captivity.
In a double episode ( Starscape ), the two finally find Scott's mother, Jenny Hayden in Arizona where these lives as an artist under the name Karen Iseley. After this double episode another episode even aired ( The Test ), which tried as a " cliffhanger " episode, to prepare the way for the second season of the series. However, the show was canceled due to low viewership.
Background
The series is a similar concept to series such as The Fugitive, The Incredible Hulk or Pretender. In all series, the protagonists are pursued or hunted down and change from episode to episode their whereabouts. They help others in emergencies and even their persecutors in exceptional situations; For example, Dr. Kimble rescues in the series The Fugitive his pursuer Lt.. Gerard multiple life - as did Forrester at his tormentor Fox. In the center of the family series are humanity and charity, and there are the negative aspects of prejudice and persecution theme.
The two former leading man, Robert Hays and Christopher Daniel Barnes, worked after the end of the TV series as a speaker in two well-known cartoon series by Marvel Comics together: Hays gave the " superhero " Iron Man 's voice and Barnes Spider-Man.
