Staškov

Staškov (Hungarian Szaniszlófalva - to 1907 Sztaskó ) a municipality in Okres Čadca of Žilinský kraj is in the far north of Slovakia. The number of inhabitants amounted to 2771 (31 December 2011 ).

Geography

The municipality is located in the upper valley Kysuca mainly on the right bank of the flowing eastward Kysuca. South of the town rises the Javorníky and north of the hill country Turzovská Highlands and is located under the mountain Vysoká ( 798 m nm). The area is heavily wooded. Staškov lies between the cities Čadca, eight kilometers to the east and Turzovka six kilometers to the west.

History

The village was founded in the early 17th century by Wallachian colonization of the area and is mentioned for the first time in 1640. The territory was divided between the goods at the beginning of Budatín castle and castle Strečno and complete control alternated between these castles. In 1770 there were three mills in the town. The population engaged in forestry, timber rafting, sheep and wire bonding. 1796, the first, nor wooden church was built, which was in 1876 replaced by the current.

Traffic

Podvysoká is on the national road 487 ( Čadca - Makov - Turzovka ) reachable. Furthermore, there is a stop on the railway line Čadca - Makov.
