Stausee Margaritze

The reservoir is located on the Margaritze Pasterze ( am Großglockner ), in the Hohe Tauern in Carinthia, and is part of Kaprun storage power plants. The reservoir, as well as the transfer tunnel Möll were completed in summer 1953.

Memory Margaritze

The Margaritze is a valley basin, which was formed by the Pasterze, and their decline after the beginning of the last century has become ice-free and formed the spring pool of Möll. It lies below the Glockner house on the road to the glacier, the detour of the Grossglockner Road to the Franz- Josephs- height, and is now about 2 km below the end of the Pasterze.

Two dams, the Möllsperre (93 m height) and the Margaritze lock ( 39 m ) form a reservoir, it is about 200 m long and 800 m wide, with 3.2 million m³ net capacity. He serves as a weekly memory and collects the melt water from the glacier Pasterzen, the naturally drained by the Möll in the Drava. The water level lies at an elevation of 2,036 m, 1,980 m on the Absenkziel. With lowering of water level on the Absenkziel Margaritze memory pours 3.2 million cubic meters of water, and thus contributes 8.3 GWh for electricity generation, with an annual working capacity of 152 GWh.

As recently as the 1970s the sufficient Pasterze up in the Pasterzen base which extends several hundred meters above the Margaritze, and at the time was training a Gletscherendsee, the Sandersee. Until the 1990s, this lake has retained the released glacial sediments, but is now completely silted up, which now means 40,000 m³ / year of sediment in storage Margaritze are deposited. A memory flushing is at the lake not possible, the bottom outlet is kept by means of a dredge pump by rearrangement in the flat areas, a Desanding Margaritze - Naßfeld is planned.

Möllüberleitungsstollen

The water is directed or pumped through the 11.6 km long Möllüberleitungsstollen in the Mooserboden in the Kaprun valley, depending on the water level. He tunneled so that the watershed of the Alps between Drau ( in Osijek / Croatia into the Danube ) and Salzach / Inn ( near Passau in the Danube ). This precipitation can be detected on both sides of the main water - and weather divide of the Alps.

The tunnel runs from the Margaritze exactly north, and the western flank of Fuscherkarkopfs in the Käfertal, and slightly westward near the Schwarzenberg hut and under the Bratschenkopf in Kaprun Valley. The Möllpumpwerk located underground beneath the Mooser soil at the penstocks advanced level, leading from the Drossen of Mooserboden to the powerhouse high school below the Limbergsperre of memory Wasserfallboden, roughly where the water tower below the Heinrich Schwaiger house on Wiesbachhorn is.
