Stefano Perugini

Stefano Perugini ( born September 10, 1974 in Viterbo, Lazio, Italy ) is an Italian former motorcycle racer.

Career

125 cc class

Stefano Perugini debuted at the Italian Grand Prix in 1993 in Misano as wildcard rider in the MotoGP World Championship. In the same year the Italians secured the title with Aprilia in the 125cc classes of the European Championship and the Italian championship.

In 1994, Perugini 19 -year-old for the team IPA Italia Corse on permanently Aprilia in the 125cc World Championship at the start. After some initial difficulties he improved during the season and reached at the British Grand Prix at Donington Park with place behind Takeshi Tsujimura his first podium finish. After a total of four podium finishes in the last five races of the Italians reached 106 points ranked seventh in the overall standings. The following season started Perugini continue for the IPA team again achieved three podiums and was WM- sixth. 1996 won Stefano Perugini in the season opener in Malaysia his first Grand Prix. He reached third place in the UK and Imola and closed the World Cup as seventh from. 1999 drove Stefano Perugini on a Honda Team Tino Villa Racing at the 16 races held 15 times in the points and thus secured the fifth world ranking.

Return to 125cc

2000 does not Perugini took part in the Motorcycle World Championship. For the 2001 season, he returned to the quarter-liter class and launched two years for the Italjet factory team, the 21 and 17 but not were very successful with the World Cup ranks. 2003 piloted Stefano Perugini again an Aprilia, this time for the Abruzzo Racing Team. He won the season opener in Japan and also won the Grand Prix of Germany at Sachsenring. After two more podium places in the UK and the Czech Republic Perugini reached fourth place the best World Cup result of his career. In the 2004 season, Stefano Perugini launched along with compatriot Fabrizio Lai for the Gilera factory team Metis Gilera Racing Team. However, he ran only four times in the points and closed from the World Cup as a 24. Then the Italians ended his World Cup career.
