Climbing in the stone wall

The stone wall is a maximum of 646 m above sea level. NN high - phonolite rock wall or a close Poppenhausen situated foothills of foot knoll in the Rhön, a low mountain range in Bavaria, Hesse and Thuringia ( Germany ).

Geographical location

The rock wall " stone wall " rises within the county of Fulda in the Rhön Nature Reserve or the Rhön Biosphere Reserve. Mountain Description

The stone wall is a composed of phonolite rock wall of about 100 m in length and a maximum height of 20 m. Your rocky landscape is richly wooded.

Rock climbing

At the stone wall and the two smaller rocks lying south of Devil's Pulpit and rear stone wall, there are over 100 routes of levels II to VIII ( UIAA scale).

Thus the stone wall of one of the most important climbing areas in Hesse and since the closure of the routes on the Milseburg ( nature reserve) is the only one in the entire Rhön. Most climbing routes are well protected by Buhler hook, it can / should but partly also slips are placed.
