The Haune in Hauneck - Unterhaun

The Haune, called the Early Middle Ages Hunaha, in the osthessischen counties Fulda and Hersfeld -Rotenburg is a 66.5 km long, orographic right and southern tributary of the Fulda.

Course

The Haune rises in the Rhön Nature Reserve and the Rhön Biosphere Reserve in the Milseburger Kuppenrhön, a western part of the Rhön. Your source is located in the district of Fulda, about 2 km east of the hamlet Künzeller Dietershausen on the west flank of the mountain gable Rain ( about 590 m above mean sea level. ) - At about 480 m altitude.

After flowing through from Dietershausen where the Haune leaves the Rhön Nature Reserve, the river runs in a predominantly northern directions. It then goes through after leaving the Rhön biosphere reserve by Dirlos. From there to the Haune flows parallel to mostly a few kilometers to the west extending Fulda. She runs through Dipperz, Bockel, Rex and Margretenhaun where the tub opens.

Catchment and inflows

The Haune drains a 499.965 km ² large catchment area and promotes the means ( MQ ) about four cubic meters of water per second. One fifth of the catchment area is drained by the Nüst, which contributes about a quarter of the water.

History

In the early Middle Ages the river " Hunaha " was called. This could mean as much as mountain water.

Attractions and buildings

  • One of the most famous tourist destinations directly to the Haune is the ruins of the castle Hauneck on the 523.9 -meter-high mountain in Haunetal stubble.
  • About 4 km further upstream can be found in Burghaun a rare church game. There stands on the ruins of an old castle, the younger, Catholic Church. To the left was divided after the medieval gate house, which dates from the period in which Burghaun in town and village, there is the older Protestant church. According to legend was the Catholic Church as built after the Reformation, that no light should fall into the smaller Evangelical Church.
