Hauneck
Hauneck is a community in Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in eastern Hesse. The town of Bad Hersfeld lies north, in the immediate vicinity. In about 35 km lies in the south of Fulda and Alsfeld in the West.

Geography
The municipality extends to the Haune along. A few kilometers north of the Haune flows into the Fulda

The municipality consists of the villages Bode, Eitra, Fischbach, Oberhaun, Rotensee, Sieglos and Unterhaun.

History
In the year 972 a Chapel of the Cross was first mentioned in a document. They probably served as a place of pilgrimage. The developing here the village was first mentioned in a document of Hersfelder Abbot Ludwig I to the Vogt Bertho of Buchenau as Cruceberc 1217. The Chapel of the Cross served in the following centuries as a village church. In the 16th century it became a deserted village until the late 17th century here was the place Unterhaun. In 1736 the church was given a new village church. As a result, fell into this century, the Chapel of the Cross on a hill above the town.
In the Middle Ages the Knights of Buchenau ( Buchenaouwe ) have held for a long time, the feud through the Office of Shield Slam and the court Johannesberg from Hersfelder Abt. This Hersfelder administrative regions belonged to many of today's districts. The Abbey Hersfeld put the book Auer as bailiffs. The Bailiwick and the seat of the court was, together with the provost of St. John on the Johannesberg. Later, under the Landgrave of Hessen, the administrative regions was ruled from the castle Hauneck, which involves then derived in 1971 the community name.
Incorporations
Through the municipal reform on 31 December 1971, the municipality Hauneck established by the merging of places Oberhaun, Rotensee, Sieglos and Unterhaun. On August 1, 1972, the previously independent municipalities Bodes and Fischbach were added (until then in the district Hünfeld ) and Eitra.

Mayor
The Mayor Harald Preßmann ( FWG ) was elected on January 25, 2004 with a vote share of 63.0 %. In the election on 27 September 2009, he was confirmed with 87.4 % of the votes with a turnout of 78.0 % in office.

The wave bar represents the Haune that flows through the community. The stars symbolize the seven districts of the municipality.

Traffic
Hauneck is located directly on the main highway 4 in close proximity to Exit 32 ( Bad Hersfeld ). The State Road 27 runs along the Haune by the community. By Hauneck the railway line Bebra - Fulda runs.
Education
In Hauneck there is a primary school which bears the name of Astrid Lindgren School since 2001. It is located in the district Unterhaun.
