Geography

The municipality is located in Hersfeld-Rotenburg district about 35 km southeast of Kassel, and only a few kilometers northwest of Rotenburg an der Fulda. It extends on both sides of Fulda in the Knüllgebirge and Stölzinger Mountains into it. Situated in this mountain 549 m high mountain Alheimer gave the community its name.

The population is about 5,300, of which more than 2,500 people in Heinebach, the largest of the ten districts and economic center Alheims live.

Neighboring communities

Alheim bordered to the north by the municipality of Decayed and the city Spangenberg (both in the Schwalm -Eder- Kreis), in the east on the town of Rotenburg an der Fulda, on the south by the municipality of Bad Hersfeld (both in Hersfeld -Rotenburg ), and on the west by the community Knüllwald ( in the Schwalm -Eder -Kreis).

History

As part of the municipal reform Baumbach, Erdpenhausen, Heinebach went (until then in the district of Melsungen ), Hergershausen, Licherode, Lower Ellenbach, Niedergude, Oberellenbach, Obergude and Sterkelshausen on 1 August 1972 in the new community Alheim on.

In the last election on 14 September 2008, the incumbent mayor George Luedtke ( SPD), with 65.6 % against the non-party Lothar Schäfer, which reached 26.0%, and Michael Werner ( FDP), which reached 8.4% re-elected.

Community partnerships

Since 2001, the community partnership with the community Zandhoven in Belgium. Since 1971, a partnership between the largest district Heinebach and the village bottle that belongs meanwhile to Zandhoven.

Culture and sights

There themed hiking trails have been established. Here are mainly the mining Historical learning and adventure trail, the water adventure trail and the cultural and historical hiking trail to call. At the edge of the hamlet Heinebach following cycle paths run:

  • The Hessian Radfernweg R1 ( Fulda Cycle Route ) performs more than 250 km from the heights of the Rhön along the Fulda to Bad Karl port on the river Weser.
  • The Hessian Radfernweg R5 ( North Hesse route Eder- Fulda- Werra ) performs more than 220 km from Willingen in Upland along the southern shore of Lake Eder, on (Efze ) and Rotenburg an der Fulda until after Wanfried on the Werra.
  • The D- Route 9 (Weser - Romantic Road ) leads from the North Sea via Bremen, Kassel, Fulda and the Tauber Valley to Füssen in the Allgäu ( 1197 km ).

Popular excursion and hiking destination is the Alheimer tower on the eponymous mountain in Stölzinger Mountains.

Structures

  • The churches in the various districts are partly preserved even with its medieval ramparts.
  • On the Heineberg remains of fortifications have been preserved, probably of fortifications dating from the 8th or 10th century. There the foundations of an early medieval church were found during excavations in 1974.
