Geography

Geographical location

The small spa resort Steisslingen is located north of Lake Constance in Hegau.

Waters

The Steißling Lake is 11.19 acres in size. The emerged from is ballasted ice lake has a length of 600 meters and measures at its widest point is 255 meters. The deepest part of the lake is 21.4 meters, the mean water level 445.56 masl and the total volume of 1,152,286 cubic meters ( measurement of the Institute of Lake Research in October 2011). The acknowledged as a natural monument lake offers in its reed belt protection for nesting birds and other animals. The swimming pool of the lake has attracted visitors per bathing season, about 50,000 visitors.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by Orsingen- Nenzingen, on the east by the city Stockach, in the south to the city of Radolfzell on Lake Constance in the west to the town of Singen ( Hohentwiel ) and Volkertshausen.

Community structure

The municipality Steisslingen with the previously independent community Wiechs includes seven villages, hamlets and farms. The municipality Steisslingen in the territorial status of 30 June 1972 include the village Steisslingen, the hamlet Maier courtyards and patios Hard mill and Ziegelhofstraße. For the former municipality Wiechs include the village and the hamlet Wiechs Shors. In the district Steisslingen are also located the industrial area north and the resulting hardware in 2009, industrial area south hardware.

History

Environmental Historical and archaeological investigations on annually laminated sediments of Lake Steißling show an example of central Europe, the development of the landscape over the last 16,000 years. First archaeological finds on the Steißling district date back to the Middle Stone Age. The name itself is Steisslingen Alemannic origin. The first mention was made in the year 1155, Steisslingen is mentioned in the so-called Barbarossa certificate and reported as possession of the diocese of Constance. By 1400 the place to Landgraviate Nellenburg and with this in 1465 came to western Austria. A major step in the development, the year 1499, when the villages Steisslingen and Wiechs were looted and burned in the Swiss War of the Confederates.

The Steißling landlords were since 1672 Ebinger of the castle. Since 1780, the Barons of Stotzingen inhabit the castle in Steisslingen. 1810 Steisslingen was Baden.

As the county Stockach was dissolved in 1973, Steisslingen was assigned to the district of Konstanz.

Religions

Because of the membership of Further Austria, the Reformation went past Steisslingen, so that even today the majority of the population belongs to the Roman Catholic Church. In addition to the St. Remigius Church in the main town there are also three Roman Catholic chapels. Since 1957 there is the Church of Peace, also a Protestant church in the village.

Population

The community Steisslingen has 4627 inhabitants, of whom 4464 in the district Steisslingen and 173 in the district Wiechs (31 December 2013). The population growth was relatively high until 2006 due to inflows, since the population is largely constant. In 2013, there were 336 applications and 250 Steisslingen off as well as 44 births and 43 deaths.

Policy

The community belongs to the Agreed administrative community of the city of Singen (Hohentwiel ).

Parish council

The council are after the local elections of 7 June 2009, in addition to the mayor as chairman, 14 members. The election resulted in the following distribution of seats: Free voter 6 ( 1 ), CDU 5 (-1) and SPD 3 (± 0) seats.

Mayor

Mayor of Steisslingen is since January 16, 1978 Artur Easter Maier ( born 1951, CDU). It is currently seeking a fifth term, which began on 18 January 2010, and is expected to January 2018Vorlage: will the future take / in 3 years.

The last mayoral election was held with a voter turnout of 48.8 % on 8 November 2009. Easter Maier was re-elected the only candidate with a vote share of 97.4 %. The next mayoral election is expected in November 2017Vorlage: Future / in 3 years instead.

Culture and sights

Structures

  • The Steißling Torkel: ( rotate Latin torquere =; torculum = wine ) As Torkel are wine presses, but also the building in which they are designated. In 1500, construction started the current Torkel, 1620 were eight large trukh ( staggering ) in the Steißling Herrentorkel. In the 19th century the decline of viticulture followed by crop failures and vine diseases, 1912 a fire broke out in the Torkel. Due to new vine diseases more 1929 wine-growing fruit growing, in the 1960s and 1970s fell into the Herrentorkel rapidly. 1976-1979 were made first restoration measures, in 1991 the municipality bought the Torkel, 2003-2004 basic remedial measures were carried out on the building ( restoration of Torkelbäume and mangle ). In May 2004, the inauguration and handover of the renovated Torkel was held to the population.

Steisslingen consulted in accordance with National Development Plan 2002 of the Ministry of Economics Baden- Württemberg to the central region Singen ( Hohentwiel ) and to the upper range of Konstanz.

In Steisslingen 369 commercial enterprises (December 31, 2012 including ancillary trades ) are reported. This corresponds in 2012, a decrease of 0.3%.

Educational institutions

The place has the primary and secondary school Steisslingen (GHS ) with integrated Werkrealschule. At the elementary school a secure care period is offered in the context of reliable primary school. In school, 21 teachers work; it is attended by 355 pupils in 16 classes. The average class size was 22.5 students at the elementary school and 21.6 at the main school in the school year 2006/ 07 the average for the region. In the same year, 26% of school transitions from primary to secondary schools, 33 % of secondary schools and 41 % in secondary schools.

In Steisslingen there are no private schools of general education.

In Steisslingen there is the municipal nursery stork and the Roman Catholic Kindergarten St. Elizabeth. In kindergarten Stork 2006 children are taken from two years since September. There is for children up to three years privately organized playgroup.

The newly renovated town house in the center resides the community music school and the Catholic public library.

Leisure and sports facilities

The sports area in Mindlestal and the football ground in the garden road can be used outside of school and training time by anyone.

For children and young people are in the entire municipal area ten playgrounds available. Particularly noteworthy is the award-winning game and turn the garden at the elementary and secondary school with Werkrealschule and the newly formed playground at Rehmenbach. Both playgrounds have been built in large part on their own performance and to the game and valuation narrowing the delight of children and young people to promote sustainable. For young people between 14 and 20 years there is led by young people youth room siesta in the Town Hall basement.
