Stellan Nilsson

Nilsson 1947 Råsunda

Stellan Nilsson ( May 22nd, 1922 in Lund, † 27 May 2003) was a Swedish football player. The midfielder, who belonged to the Swedish national squad, won the Olympic gold, bringing with Malmö FF three times the national champion title and the National Cup.

Career

Nilsson has already played in the youth at Malmö FF. In 1940 he enlisted as a 18 -year-old into the men's team of the club, in which he established himself in the episode on the side of Kjell Rosén, Börje Tapper, Erik Nilsson and Helge Bengtsson in the team. The first success came in the season 1943/44, when he one hand, the von Rosen's Cup for the Swedish national champion title was won with the team and on the other hand after a 4-3 victory against IFK Norrköping the Svenska Cupen won. He played in the Swedish national team, in which he debuted on October 3, 1943 in a 1-1 draw against the Finnish national team at the side of Sune Andersson and Gunnar Nordahl.

In the following years, Nilsson played regularly with the club to the league title, but this was missed in the seasons 1945/46 and 1947/48 than in second behind series champion IFK Norrköping. Nevertheless, he remained with the team is not without a title, as in the years 1946 and 1947 was followed by more Cup success. In the spring of 1948 he left the club briefly to heueren at local rivals IFK Malmö. In summer, however, he returned to eleven stakes back to MFF.

Nilsson had established himself in the national team and therefore belonged to the squad of the national selection for the Olympic Games in 1948. During the tournament, which was successfully crowned with a 3-1 playoff victory after goals from twice Gunnar Gren and Gunnar Nordahl against Yugoslavia, he came, however, not used. In the ensuing Allsvenskan season he won his second league title with the matches, as Karl -Erik Palmér and Ingvar Rydell reinforced team. The following year, she defended the title by it remained throughout the course of the season undefeated and only allowed two draws and seasonally across reached between 15 May 1949 and the May 7, 1950 23 wins in a row. The club set a new record, as he remained unbeaten until 1951 in 49 consecutive games.

Nilsson participated in the last series only until the summer of 1950. As an international, he stepped up to the World Cup tournament in 1950. His first stop was 1893 Genoa in Serie A. He played one and a half years. In the summer of 1952 he went to France to Angers SCO. Again, he was one and a half years of active and joined in January 1954 Olympique Marseille. Here, however, he could not prevail, and left the club after a year to return to Angers SCO.

1955 Nilsson returned back to Sweden. Had worked once as a professional abroad, he was in his home country no longer eligible to play and ended at the age of 33 years his active career.
