Stéphane Grichting ( born March 30, 1979 in Sierre ) is a Swiss football player.

Career

Grichtings first club was FC Chalais, for whom he played from 1986 to 1993. His professional career began in the linksfüssige defender after an apprenticeship as a carpenter in the top Swiss league with FC Sion, where he played from 1993 to 2002. Subsequently he moved to Ligue 1 in France for AJ Auxerre, for whom he was bound over ten years. In summer 2012, he moved free transfer to the Swiss first division club Grasshopper Club.

Grichting was on 28 April 2004 the Swiss national team his debut and was there 44 times used, including at the 2006 World Cup in Germany and at the European Championships 2008 in Austria and Switzerland. On June 6, 2011, the Defender from the national team resigned because he was not in the European Championship qualifier against England under coach Ottmar Hitzfeld in the squad.

Grichting was most affected by the riots in qualifying for the 2006 World Cup after relegation match between Switzerland and Turkey in Istanbul: He suffered a kick to the groin and had to be medically treated.
