Stephen C. Millard

Stephen Columbus Millard ( born January 14, 1841 in Stamford, Vermont, † June 21, 1914 in Binghamton, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1883 and 1887 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Stephen Columbus Millard was born about five years before the outbreak of the Mexican-American War in Bennington County. He attended the Powers Institute. In 1865, he graduated from Williams College in Williamstown (Massachusetts ). He then attended Harvard Law School. After receiving his license to practice law in May 1867, he began practicing in Binghamton. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1872 and 1879 he was the chair of the Republican County Committee.

In the congressional elections of 1882 for the 48th Congress of Millard was the 28th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Jeremiah W. Dwight on March 4, 1883. He ran in 1884 in the 26th electoral district of New York for the 49th Congress. After a successful election, he resigned on March 4, 1885 the successor of Sereno E. Payne. Since he gave up for reelection in 1886, he retired after March 3, 1887 from the Congress.

After his conference time he went to Binghamton again his work as a lawyer after, where he died on 21 June 1914. His body was then buried in Spring Forest Cemetery.
