Stephen Dillane

Stephen Dillane ( born November 30, 1956 in London, England ) is a British actor and BAFTA award winner, among others.

Life and work

Stephen Dillane was born in Kensington, London, the son of Bridget and John Dillane. His father, a surgeon, came from Australia, his mother was a native Englishwoman. Dillane studied at the University of Exeter history and politics and worked for a short time for the Croyden Advertiser as a journalist. Then he turned to acting and studied at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.

While he played in the 90s in many feature film productions, there were but his theater roles that made him famous, such as, for example, Hamlet ( 1994), directed by Peter Hall. As early as 1990 he had played in Franco Zeffirelli 's Hamlet to Horatio. Also Award winning his role as Henry in Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing, for which he was awarded the Evening Standard Award (London), the Variety Club Showbusiness Awards ( London), the Drama Desk Award (Broadway) and the New York Tony Award.

2004 to 2005 he toured the world (Los Angeles, London, Sydney ) with a solo production of Macbeth. In November and December 2006, he was back on the stage of London's Royal Court Theatre in the world premiere of a new play by Caryl Churchill Drunk enough to say I love you? .

Fugitive Pieces, the film adaptation of the novel Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels, opened the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2007. John Adams was broadcast on U.S. television channel HBO in March and April 2008. God on Trial is a BBC Scotland production, which was shown on British television in late 2008 and in May 2009 at the Jewish Film Festival in Berlin. For the role of father Anthony Hurdall in The Shooting of Thomas Hurndall Dillane received in April 2009, the British Academy Television Award in the category: Best Actor.

His son, Frank Dillane (* 1991), played in the film adaptation of JK Rowling's novel Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009 ) the role of Lord Voldemort as a student at Hogwarts. His younger brother Richard Dillane is also an actor.
