Stephen II of Troyes

Stephen II (French: Étienne; † 1045-1048 ) was a Count Count of Meaux and Troyes. He was the second son of Count Odo II of Blois (as Odo I, Count of Meaux -Troyes ) and his wife Ermengarde of Auvergne.

Life

Stephan is attested for the first time in 1032 in a document of the Abbey of Epernay. After the death of his father in 1037 he inherited the territories newly acquired by Meaux and Troyes which form the core of the Champagne region. His older brother Theobald was the family seat of the family of the Loire to Blois - Chartres.

Stephan and his brother were both with King Henry I and to the Emperor Henry III. enemies. He lost the border castle Donchery ( Dep. Ardennes) to the Duke of Lorraine Gotzelo I., who received this castle of King Henry as a fief. Stephan supported with his brother in 1041, the revolt of Prince Odo against the king, but lost the battle of Nouy 1044 against Count Gottfried Martel of Anjou.

Stephen died between the years 1045 and 1048 and left an infant son from his marriage to a woman named Adele:

  • Odo II ( † after 1118), to 1063 Count of Meaux and Troyes

The guardianship of Stephen's son took over his brother Theobald, however Odo to 1063 displaced from the Champagne region. Odo joined after William the Conqueror at, was the brother in law and got around 1070 the County of Aumale.
