Stephen W. Bosworth

Stephen Warren Bosworth ( born December 4, 1939) is an American diplomat. He is the Dean of the Fletcher School at Tufts University. He served from February 2009 until October as a special envoy for North Korea policy of the United States.

Life

After completing his Bachelor of Arts degree (1961 ) from Dartmouth College Bosworth completed postgraduate studies at George Washington University.

Between 1983 and 1984, Bosworth has held as the successor of Paul Wolfowitz the position of Director of Policy Planning in the U.S. State Department. From 1995 to 1997 he was executive director of the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization ( KEDO).

In the course of his diplomatic career, he was the United States Ambassador to South Korea (1997-2001), the Philippines (1984-1987) and in Tunisia ( 1979-1981 ).

Bosworth is a member of the Trilateral Commission.
