Hildegardia cubensis

The subfamily Sterculiaceae ( Sterculioideae ), also called Stinkbaumgewächse, now belong to the plant family (Malvaceae ) in the order of Malvenartigen ( Malvales ). It contains twelve genera with about 400 species. The best-known species in Central Europe are the Stinkbäume and colas.

System

The subfamily contains Sterculioideae on the current state twelve genera. Sooner you contained many more species, but these have been incorporated differently.

  • . Acropogon Schltr, 22 species in New Caledonia;
  • Fortunately Trees ( Brachychiton Schott & Endl. ), 31 species in Australia and New Guinea;
  • Colas ( Cola Schott & Endl. ), More than 100 species in tropical Africa, most famously the cola;
  • Firmiana Marsili, twelve species in Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands;
  • Heritiera utilis ( Sprague ) Sprague, the Mangroveküsten West Africa
  • Heritiera littoralis Aiton, the Mangroveküsten India and the western Pacific Ocean
  • Pterygota alata ( Roxb. ) R. Br (Buddha Nut )

Earlier this taxon had the rank of a family Sterculiaceae ( Sterkuliazeen or Sterculiaceae ). This family consisted of far more genera and an estimated 1,000 species.
